Workforce Investment Board - Youth Education And Employment Service

Description

Established pursuant to the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) which repealed the Job Training Partnership Act. Under federal law, the WIB is required to develop a local plan for workforce and youth activities to be funded and carried out under WIA.

Authority

Board of Supervisors upon the nomination by the Membership Committee of the WIB and the Nominating Committee of the School-to-Career Board : Workforce Investment Act of 1998; Governor's Executive Order D-9-99 Board of Supervisors Resolution 99-1621.

Duties

Subject to approval by the WIB, the Council will develop the portions of the local plan relating to youth activities, recommend eligible providers of youth activities, conduct oversight with respect to the eligible providers of youth activities, and coordinate all youth activities authorized under the Workforce Investment Act.

Term

One year initially, two years thereafter.

24 members: 7 education members (1 Alternative Education; 1 English Language Learners; 1 K-16 General Students; 1 Out-of-School Youth; 1 Post-Secondary Vocational Education; 1 Secondary Vocational Education; 1 Special Education); 3 Workforce Investment Board Members, 1 Housing Authority, 1 Law Enforcement, 1 Juvenile Justice, 1 Parent, 3 Youth Community-Based Organizations, 4 Business Representatives, 1 Rehabilitation; 1 Probation; 1 Labor.
