Workforce Investment Board

Description

Established pursuant to the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) which repealed the Job Training Partnership Act. Under federal law, the WIB is required to develop a local plan for workforce and youth activities to be funded and carried out under WIA.

Authority

Board of Supervisors upon nomination by Membership Committee: Workforce Investment Act of 1998; Governor's Executive Order D-9-99; Resolution 98-1409; 99-1621; Agenda Item #16; 10/24/06; Agenda Item #6; 7/17/07.

Duties

With concurrence of the Board of Supervisors, the WIB will develop a local workforce investment plan, select one-stop operator(s) and youth service providers, provide program oversight of the one-stop system, administer the WIA funding for the local area, negotiate performance measures, and identify other issues to promote workforce development in Sonoma County.

Term

One year initially, two years thereafter.

Membership Composition

55 members: 28 business members, 3 community based organizations, 2 economic development agencies, 5 education, 2 labor, 10 required partners (appointments of required partners do not require formal action by the WIB or Board of Supervisors).
