Description

Serves as a bridge, bringing together people living with/affected by HIV/AIDS and county policy makers to support the community in addressing prevention, care and the preservation of human rights. Authority

Board of Supervisors 87-1466, august 4, 1987 Title I of the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act of 200 Title II, 42 U.S.C.A. Secs 300ff-(a); 300ff-51: and State requirements thereof

Duties

Provide advice and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on HIV policy issues and the need for HIV-related education and prevention services, treatment and supportive services and any other related matters the BOS refers to it, or which the Commission itself raises. Serves as a bridge, bringing together people living and/or affected by HIV/AIDS and county policy makers to support the community in addressing prevention, care and the preservation of human rights.

Term

A Commissioner's initial term on the Commissoin shall expire on the second anniversary of appointment. All subsequent terms will be for two-year periods. Reappointment is at the option of the Board of Supervisors.

Membership Composition

A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 25 members and 2 ex-officio members representing the Health and the Human Services Departments of the County. Commission membership may include representatives from the following populations and agencies: People living with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS; healthcare providers; community-based HIV/AIDS Service Organizations; Social Service providers; Community leaders; Substance Use providers; People of Color; Individuals from the Elder community; Individuals specializing in maternal and child health; People living with disabilities; High school or college student; Faith community leaders; Individuals representing GLBTQQI; Individuals representing Criminal Justice. The Commission will strive for 33% of membership to be persons affected by or living with HIV disease and will strive for repreentation from all geographic areas of the county.
